Operational Greenhouse Gas Inventory
ASUS calculates greenhouse gas emissions using the method of “activity data × applicable emission factor,” and converts emissions into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) based on Global Warming Potential (GWP). As ASUS currently has no manufacturing facilities, its main direct emission sources are fuel consumption from equipment such as backup generators and company vehicles, refrigerant charging or fugitive emissions, and other related operational records. Emission factors are preferentially sourced from factors announced by competent authorities, the IPCC, or other credible international data sources, while GWP values are converted based on the most recently applicable IPCC Assessment Report.

ASUS calculates indirect greenhouse gas emissions from purchased energy using the method of “energy consumption × applicable emission factor,” and calculates CO2e under both the location-based and market-based methods. ASUS’s purchased energy consists mainly of electricity, with activity data sourced from electricity bills, consumption records, energy procurement records, and other related operational documentation at each operating location. Emission factors are preferentially sourced from factors announced by local grid operators or competent authorities, supplemented where necessary by credible international data sources based on data availability and applicability, to ensure the consistency, completeness, and verifiability of emissions calculations.

In accordance with the quantification and reporting principles of ISO 14064-1, ASUS inventories and quantifies transportation-related indirect greenhouse gas emissions arising from its operational activities, covering logistics and transportation, business travel, employee commuting, and other transportation-related emission sources.
Relevant activity data sources include logistics and transportation records, transport mileage or weight-distance data, travel records, vehicle usage information, and employee commuting surveys or estimation data. Depending on data availability and activity characteristics, the distance-based method is used, multiplying activity data by the applicable emission factor to convert emissions into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Emission factors are preferentially sourced from factors announced by competent authorities, factors provided by suppliers with reasonable supporting evidence, life cycle databases, the IPCC, or other credible international data sources.

Scope includes travel activities of employees at Taiwan locations | Quantified using the distance-based method, based on travel records, vehicle type, trip distance, or other available activity data | 2,011.19 |
| Employee Commuting | Covers transportation-related indirect GHG emissions from employee commuting at Taiwan locations. Scope is based on the commuting activity data of ASUS employees in Taiwan | 6,223.42 |
1 ASUS follows the EPEAT-CCM-2023 4.1.3 Optional – Product Transport Carbon Footprint and Goal methodology, and, verified under ISO 14064-1, calculates carbon emissions based on the weight and distance of transported products using well-to-wheel emission factors for each mode of transport
2 Domestic business travel and the ground-transportation segments of international business travel are excluded from calculation due to low significance
In accordance with the quantification and reporting principles of ISO 14064-1, ASUS inventories and quantifies other indirect greenhouse gas emissions arising from the organization’s procurement and use of products and services. This category covers emission sources such as the supply chain, purchased capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, operational waste generated, use of sold products, and end-of-life disposal of sold products.
Depending on the activity characteristics, data availability, and materiality of each emission source, ASUS applies appropriate quantification methods, including supplier-specific data methods, spend-based methods, average-data methods, distance-based methods, and factor-based methods, multiplying activity data by the applicable emission factor to convert emissions into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Relevant activity data include supplier emissions data, procurement amounts, energy consumption, waste collection and treatment data, product energy consumption and usage scenarios, and end-of-life disposal data. Emission factors are preferentially sourced from factors announced by competent authorities, factors provided by suppliers with reasonable supporting evidence, life cycle databases, the IPCC, or other credible international data sources.

In accordance with the quantification and reporting principles of ISO 14064-1, ASUS inventories and quantifies other indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of the organization’s products. This category mainly covers emissions generated during the use phase and end-of-life disposal phase of sold products, including emissions from electricity consumption during the expected use period of products, as well as emissions from disposal, recycling, transportation to treatment facilities, or other end-of-life treatment processes. Based on activity data such as product type, sales volume, product energy consumption, expected usage scenario, service life, recycling or disposal volume, transport distance, transport mode, and end-of-life treatment method, emissions are converted into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) using the factor-based and distance-based methods, multiplied by the applicable emission factor.

|---|---|---|---|
| Use of Sold Products | Inventories other indirect GHG emissions from the use phase of sold products. Scope covers emissions from electricity consumption during the expected use period of products sold by ASUS during the year | Quantified using the factor-based method, based on the sold products’ product type, sales volume, product energy consumption, expected usage scenario, and service life, multiplied by the applicable electricity emission factor | 1,692,290.38 |
| End-of-Life Disposal of Sold Products | Inventories other indirect GHG emissions from the end-of-life disposal of globally sold products. Scope covers the transport stage from collection points to treatment facilities, and emissions from disposal, recycling, or other treatment methods | Quantified using the distance-based and factor-based methods, based on the sold products’ product type, recycling/disposal volume, transport distance, transport mode, and end-of-life treatment method, multiplied by the applicable emission factor | 6,528.26 |
In practice, the methods for greenhouse gas inventory can be classified into two approaches: ISO 14064-1 and GHG Protocol. ISO 14064-1 emphasizes the disclosure of greenhouse gas inventory information, It is suggested that corporate should identify the emission sources which is material to operation and conduct GHG inventory focusing on these catogories while GHG Protocol focuses on the comprehensiveness of the greenhouse gas inventory calculation scope.
